Quality Assurance and Performance Improvement
Quality Assurance and Performance Improvement (QAPI) plans allow facilities to develop strategies to manage change in a dynamic environment, identify systemic change needed to improve the overall quality of patient care, and develop ways to sustain the improvements over time.
QAPI relies on the participation of a holistic team comprised of patients, staff, and family members. Staff are able to identify issues for improvement and they understand that the leadership of the facility wants to make effective change. QAPI stresses the importance of using data to understand the scope of an issue which can drive improvement strategies.
The goal is to focus on problem solving, avoiding "quick fixes."
Facilities that implement QAPI systems are shown to have:

- Open lines of communication
- Better at developing systems thinking
- Improved teamwork
How can you be involved?
Provide the facility with regular feedback through satisfaction surveys, care conference meetings, or just stop in and let us know where you see an area in need of improvement.
